The naturemade quality mark is sponsored by the Association for environmentally sound energy (VUE), founded in 1999.

The Association's objectives are as follows:

1. To promote new, renewable energy sources and ecological energy products
   by developing, disseminating and applying certification procedures and product marks for ecological and renewable energy products;

2. To develop scientific criteria for the evaluation of ecological energy products;

3. To take on further tasks relating to the promotion of environmentally sound electricity, especially cooperation with other organizations in Switzerland and abroad.

The Board of Directors consists of:

- "Hydroelectric power plants" as electricity producers, and related associations

- Producers of "new, renewable energy" and related associations

- Energy suppliers and traders and related associations

- Environmental organizations

- Associations of small consumers

- Major commercial customers and related associations.
